Earl Grey is usually black tea flavoured with bergamot. It is a recognizable flavour combination rather than a single tea variety.
What does bergamot taste like?
Bergamot is a citrus fruit with an aroma between bright citrus peel, flowers and gentle bitterness. It gives Earl Grey its characteristic top note.
How to brew Earl Grey
- Bring fresh water to 100°C.
- Add about 2–4 g of loose tea per cup.
- Begin with a 3-minute steep.
- Extend gradually up to about 5 minutes for more body.
- Remove the leaves before drinking.
How is Blue Fog different?
Blue Fog combines black tea, natural bergamot flavour and cornflower petals. The tea and bergamot remain central, while the petals add a light floral detail.
Does Earl Grey contain caffeine?
Most Earl Grey is made with black tea and therefore contains caffeine. Check the base tea rather than relying on the flavour name alone.
